পঞ্চম সংশোধনী-সংক্রান্ত হাইকোর্টের রায় আপিল বিভাগে সমুন্নত হলো। এটি আইনের শাসনের জন্য একটি বিশাল বিজয়। বাংলাদেশ সুপ্রিম কোর্ট তাঁর নিজের ওপর চেপে বসে থাকা জগদ্দল পাথরের অবসান ঘটালেন। জাতীয় সংসদের আলোচনায় ২ ফেব্রুয়ারি আইন, বিচার ও সংসদবিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয়-সংক্রান্ত স্থায়ী কমিটির সভাপতি সুরঞ্জিত সেনগুপ্ত যথার্থই বিচার বিভাগকে সংসদের পক্ষ থেকে তার যথাযথ ঐতিহাসিক ভূমিকা পালনের জন্য অভিবাদন জানান। আমরাও মনে করি, বিচার বিভাগ তার সিদ্ধান্তের মধ্য দিয়ে প্রকারান্তরে নিজের সৃষ্ট কালিমার বর্ণময় অপনোদন ঘটাল। অভিনন্দন তাদের প্রাপ্য।

A Dhaka court yesterday summarily rejected a criminal appeal filed by BNP standing committee member Salauddin Quader Chowdhury against Home Minister Sahara Khatun for calling him war criminal.
Judge ANM Basir Ullah of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court passed the order after SQ Chowdhury’s lawyers submitted the criminal appeal challenging the legality of the lower court dismissal order.
Executive Magistrate Al Amin summarily dismissed the case after SQ Chowdhury filed it against Sahara on January 5.

WHAT is the significance of the recent decision by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court to uphold the judgement of the High Court, that the 5th amendment to the constitution was illegal and therefore null and void?
