Following a film screening of “The Whistleblower,” Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon opened a panel discussion on sexual exploitation and abuse in conflict and post-conflict situations. The filmmaker and senior UN officials addressed issues raised in the film, including human trafficking and forced prostitution as well as the Organization’s effort to combat sexual exploitation of women and children.

মানবজমিন ডেস্ক: বসনিয়াতে যুদ্ধাপরাধ তদন্তকারী আন্তর্জাতিক আদালতে সাবেক আইএসআই প্রধানকে পাঠাতে অস্বীকার করেছে পাকিস্তান। দ্য এক্সপ্রেস ট্রিবিউন পত্রিকা জানিয়েছে, স্বাস্থ্যগত সমস্যাকে কারণ হিসেবে উল্লেখ করে পাকিস্তান সরকার সাবেক আইএসআই প্রধান লেফটেন্যান্ট জেনারেল (অব.) জাভেদ নাসিরকে হেগের আন্তর্জাতিক আদালতে পাঠাতে অস্বীকৃতি জানিয়েছে। জাতিসংঘের নিষেধাজ্ঞা সত্ত্বেও বসনিয়ার মুসলমান যোদ্ধাদেরকে নাসির সহযোগিতা করেছিলেন বলে অভিযোগ ওঠায় ট্রাইব্যুনালের পক্ষ থেকে তাকে আদালতে হাজির হওয়ার নির্দেশ দেয়া হয়েছিল। পাকিস্তান আন্তর্জাতিক আদালতকে জানিয়েছে, সমপ্রতি এক সড়ক দুর্ঘটনার কারণে নাসির স্মৃতি হারিয়ে ফেলেছেন। তাই এ ধরনের কোন তদন্তে তার হাজির হওয়া সম্ভব নয়।

Milan Lukic
A lawyer who managed the legal defense of a Bosnian Serb convicted of mass murder appeared at the International Criminal Court for the former Yugoslavia today to face charges of bribing witnesses.
Jelena Rasic is accused of paying three men 1,000 euros each for testimony intended to clear Milan Lukic.
Lukic was jailed by the UN’s Yugoslav war crimes tribunal for life in 2009 for the killings of Muslims in Bosnia’s 1992-1995 war.
Rasic today pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Genocide is understood by most to be the gravest crime against humanity it is possible to commit.
It is the mass extermination of a whole group of people, an attempt to destroy an entire group and wipe them out of existence.

Vujadin Popovic, and Ljubisa Beara, two former Serbian army chiefs of security, were found guilty of genocide, extermination, murder and persecution and received life terms, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) said in a statement.
“Popovic knew that the intent was not just to kill those who had fallen into the hands of the Bosnian Serb Forces, but to kill as many as possible with the aim of destroying the group,” the ICTY’s Trial Chamber II said.
