আইন, বিচার ও সংসদবিষয়ক মন্ত্রী শফিক আহমেদ বলেছেন, আইনজীবীদের আদালত বর্জনের নিয়ম নেই এবং তা শোভনীয়ও নয়। আন্তর্জাতিক অপরাধ ট্রাইব্যুনালে আইনজীবীদের আদালত বর্জন প্রসঙ্গে সাংবাদিকদের প্রশ্নের জবাবে তিনি এসব কথা বলেন।
আইনমন্ত্রী বলেছেন, যাঁরা আইনের সহায়তা পান না, রাষ্ট্রের দায়িত্ব তাঁদের সহায়তা দেওয়া। এ জন্য বর্তমান সরকার অসচ্ছল বিচারপ্রার্থীদের জন্য সরকারি আইনগত সহায়তা কার্যক্রমের ওপর গুরুত্ব দিয়েছে। এই কর্মসূচিকে গতিশীল করতে তিনি বিচারক, আইনজীবীদের সহযোগিতা কামনা করেন।
