PRESS RELEASE
Date: 10 January 2013
Subject: Denouncing the letter of the Turkish President Mr. Abdullah Gül
We are shocked to learn that the Turkish President Abdullah Gül has sent an official letter to the Prime Minister and President of Bangladesh urging them to forgive the alleged war criminals of Bangladesh War of Independence in 1971, which goes directly against the laws of sovereign Bangladesh, international ethics, constitutional rights of the war victims in 1971. This is a blatant interference in the judicial process of a sovereign country.
Therefore, I am urging you to stand for the rights of the victims of Bangladesh War of Independence in 1971 and at the same time to protest the statement of Abdullah Gül to the Bangladesh government, since it is an illegal interference in a proceeding court hearing before the verdict is given by the International Crime Tribunal (ICT) of Bangladesh.
I invite you to stand for a fair and free trial of the alleged war criminals, to ensure the justice for the genocide took place in1971. No political power should stop or influence the trial of Golam Azam the chief of the then East Pakistan Jamat-e Islami, who actively helped Pakistan army in their genocide and mass-rape on Bangladeshis in 1971.
We demand this letter to be rescinded by President Gül.
